This trip organised by the Footloose Holidays is a complete package that gives you insight into Gautam Buddha’s inspirational life, leaving us wonderstruck at his journey from a handsome prince to a teacher who was here to enlighten the mankind.   • Day 1 Arrival at Delhi

    On arrival at Delhi International Airport, you will be warmly greeted and welcomed by Footloose Holidays representative who will assist you with anything that you wish to be helped with and also escort you to your pre-booked hotel.

  • Day 2 Delhi – Lucknow by Train (511km/6hrs) & Lucknow – Sharavasti (175km/ 3½ hrs)

    Next day will begin a little early as you will be escorted to New Delhi railway station, along with your packed breakfast to board the fastest train on this route, Shatabadi express for Lucknow. Enjoy your journey and relax for a few hours before you reach Lucknow, capital of one of the most important states of the country, Uttar Pradesh, with rich culture and heritage. On arrival here, you will be transferred to a hotel where sumptuous lunch from the famous Mughlai cuisine awaits you before you are driven to Sharavasti, a town where your pilgrimage commences as it is this place where Lord Buddha spent his 24 monsoon Seasons also known as Chaturmasas, housing age-old stupas, viharas and temples. On arrival, check-in at your pre-booked hotel and rejuvenate yourself with an enjoyable dinner and comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 3 Sharavasti – Lumbini in Nepal (185km/4½ hrs)

    Wake up next morning with a feeling of excitement and anticipation as this day is going to reveal many things about Gautam Buddha’s life. Post breakfast proceed to visit Jetvana, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries where Buddha gave most of his teachings and discourses. Ananda Bodhi Tree will further fill your heart with elation as it was planted from the sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. After a relaxed lunch, it is time to be driven to Lumbini. Lumbini is in Nepal and for visiting the other country it is necessary to obtain double entry visa for India & single entry visa for Nepal. Lumbini is one of the most sacred places and a pilgrimage site for the Buddhists as it is the birth place of prince Siddhartha, who later on grew up to become the revered founder of Buddhism, who with his simple yet effective teachings, transformed many to follow the path of peace and non-violence. On arrival at Lumbini, you will be transferred to your pre-booked hotel. It is time to relax and treat yourself to good rest with dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 4 Lumbini – Kushinagar (140 km/ 4hrs)

    Enjoy your morning breakfast at the hotel and brace yourself to visit Lumbini and feel those positive vibes surrounding you. Spend some time feeling his presence and after lunch, you will be driven to Kushinagar which is in India in Uttar Pradesh. On arrival at Kushinagar, you will be brought to a pre-booked hotel where delicious dinner & comfortable overnight stay await you.

  • Day 5 Kushinagar – Vaishali (215km/5hrs) – Patna (32km/1hr) 

    After breakfast, it is time to visit, truly an International Buddhist pilgrimage centre as it is believed that here, Gautam Buddha attained Parinirvana or salvation after his death. Here you will get to visit Mahaparinirvana Temple, the place of great significance, as here Lord Buddha breathed his last. Another sacred site is Ramabhar Stupa, a place where Lord Buddha was cremeated. Kushinagar also houses a Japanese Temple, which proudly displays eight metals statue of Lord Buddha, known to attract many visitors and pilgrims. Once you complete your visit, you will be driven to Patna, the capital city of Bihar, a state that has a significant role to play in Buddha’s life. En route visit Kesariya Stupa, built in 3rd century A.D & Vaishali, a town where Gautam Buddha delivered his last sermon and where King Ashoka built one of the most celebrated Ashokan Pillars. On arrival at Patna, check-in at your pre-booked hotel and enjoy your gastronomic dinner and a relaxed overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 6 Patna – Rajgir (104km/2hrs) – Nalanda (36km/1hr) –Bodhgaya (105km/2hrs)

    Post your sumptuous morning meal at the hotel you will be driven to Bodhgaya. On the way, visit Nalanda, a large Buddhist monastery which was a center of learning and attracted scholars from many countries. It is completely mesmerising to look at the ruins of ancient university & visit the museum. Not only Nalanda, Rajgir, a holy site houses many holy places like Gridhkutta, also known as Holy eagle and vulture peak, one of the favourite retreat of Lord Buddha will take away all your tiredness while Venuvanaram & Bimbisar prison’s will prove to be architectural wonders. Post lunch, drive to Bodhgaya, the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site. Stretch your limbs and rejuvenate yourself with dinner and overnight stay at your pre-booked hotel in Bodhgaya.

  • Day 7  Bodhgaya

    Enjoy your complete day at Bodhgaya by visiting Mahabodhi Temple, preserved with care as this site houses the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Also visit Sujata Village, picturesque and holy Niranjana River & various international monasteries. Enjoy all three meals and a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 8 Bodhgaya – Varanasi (250km/5hrs)

    Next morning, after the breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to Varanasi, also known as the Spiritual capital of India. On arrival here, check-in at the pre-booked hotel; post lunch, proceed to Sarnath (14 Kms), a historical city where Gautam Buddha first taught Dhamma. Visit Dhamekh Stupa, a massive Stupa commemorating Buddha’s activities. Also visit Deer park & museum. Reach back to hotel and enjoy your dinner and overnight stay at Varanasi.

  • Day 9 Varanasi – Delhi – Departure

    Early morning the next day, brace yourself for an out of this world experience when you take a boat ride in the mighty and holy river Ganga held in reverence by the Hindus. Come back to the hotel for breakfast and enjoy your time in leisure activities and shopping some brocade fabric or garbs that Varanasi is famous for. Finally it is time to head for the airport to board the flight for Delhi. On arrival at Delhi, you will be assisted by Footloose Holidays representative to drive through the most famous landmarks of the national capital like India Gate, President House, and Parliament House. Reach the airport on time to catch the flight for your next destination, building up and also cherishing the memories of all your wonderful trips with us.
