About Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra
Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is an annual pilgrimage in India, undertaken by Hindu devotees. Located in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Amarnath Cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 metres above sea level. It is one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimages in India for devotees of Lord Shiva. The cave houses a naturally ice-formed Shivalinga, which resembles Lord Shiva. Devotees from all over India embark on this pilgrimage every year. It is one of the most challenging treks. According to Hindu mythology, it is the same cave where Lord Shiva revealed the secrets of life and immortality to Goddess Parvati. During the time, two pigeons also heard the story and became immortal. Today, it is considered to be fortunate if you see the pigeon couple in the sanctum.
When to Visit Amarnath
Amarnath Yatra is an annual pilgrimage, which remains open only for a specific period from Late June to Late August. The rest of the year, the place remains closed due to heavy snowfall. Hence, you can embark on this spiritual journey from June to August when the cave opens.
