  • Katra: It serves as the base camp of the Vaishno Devi trek. One needs to reach Katra to embark on the spiritual journey of the Vaishno Devi Yatra. It is the pilgrimage town located in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountain and known simply as Vaishno Devi.
  • Vaishno Devi Cave: The main highlight of the Vaishno Devi trip is the Vaishno Devi cave or temple you will visit. Mata Vaishno Devi is sitting inside a cave. Earlier, people used to crawl into the cave called Garbha Gufa to have Mata’s darshan. The cave remains closed almost throughout the year and opens for pilgrims from Makar Sankranti to Holi. For the rest of the year, devotees walk through a new cave that is large enough to walk properly and not crawl to have darshan of the Pindis or deities.

Best Time to Visit Mata Vaishno Devi

Vaishno Devi is a year-round tourist destination in India. It remains open throughout the year, so you can plan your trip as per your convenience.

  • However, the best time to visit Mata Vaishno Devi is March, April, May, and June. Although the days can be quite hot, the temperature in the evening drops, making it convenient for travelers to ascend the hill.
  • One should avoid the monsoon from July to September as the risk of sudden mudslides is higher at that time.
  • Winter can be extremely cold at Vaishno Devi, but the Garbha Gufa opens from January to February/March. So, many devotees make a Vaishno Devi trip plan during winter.

Yatra Registration

Every pilgrim embarking on this spiritual journey must obtain a Yatra Parchi before starting their journey. This acts as a permit for pilgrims to undertake the journey, and it is mandatory for every Pilgrim. You can get it either online from the official Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board website or offline from the Katra bus stand or Saraswati Dham at Jammu Railway Station.
